Acupuncture

According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine paradigm (which dates back some 4000+ years), the human body operates a series of intrinsically interconnected energetic circuits (meridians).  Put basically, the philosophy says that when these circuits become out of balance, then the body experiences pain as a manifested stagnation of Qi (energy).  Acupuncture assists to re-harmonize the natural balance of these delicate meridians by inserting ultra thin needles (no thicker than a human hair) into specific locations (points) on the body. Each point has a specific corresponding role within the body.  Usually several points will be activated in one treatment.  The activation of these points creates a self-healing response within the body and assists the energy to continue to flow freely, and therefore restores good health.

The sensation created by the needles is not painful; but instead a pleasant, yet unusual sensation.  It's a feeling unique to acupuncture treatment.  Needles should not feel sharp, but instead a certain dull sensation is regarded as the optimal activation of the acupuncture point.

Sometimes one treatment may suffice, however usually several treatments are needed at frequent and regular intervals.  Your practitioner will work with you to arrange a suitable treatment program for your individual needs.
